ROSE COTTAGE BLESSINGS

Spiritual Notes from the Lake

THE FACES OF GENEROSITY

Handful of strawberries

There may be no limit to the various ways we can discipline ourselves in the virtue of generosity, an effort to imitate Christ.

Below is a sampling of the many faces of generosity for your prayer and reflection:

  • Immediately pray for people that make a hurtful comment. Hurtful comments are more about their pain, than yours.

  • Giving up your time to teach someone something is very generous.

  • Planting milkweed to support the monarchs is generous.

  • Sending a note of thanks for many people is generous.

  • Taking a parking space that is far away, for the sake of another, is generous.

  • Encouragement is an act of generosity.

  • Taking the time to pray for others is generous.

  • Cleaning out your closets and cupboards for donating is generous.

  • Bringing hope to a gloom and doom world is generous.

  • Generosity is keeping an extra umbrella in your car, to give it away to someone stuck in the rain.

  • Generosity is surprising someone by raking their leaves, shoveling their snow, moving their lawn, or remembering their birthday with a call or a card.

  • Cooking a meal for friends and wanting nothing in return is generosity.

  • Generosity is holding your tongue when you could add to gossip.

  • Generosity is listening deeply.

  • Being gentle with yourself as you grow is generous.

This sampling was inspired by “The Generosity Habit,” by Matthew Kelly.
