Open Your Heart to God with Mindfulness

 

  1. Choose an outdoor activity, such as taking a walk in your neighborhood.

  2. Tuning into your five senses, choose to focus on only one: hearing, seeing, touching, tasting, or smelling. If you choose “hearing,” for example, listen to all the sounds around you as you walk: birdsong, people passing by in cars, neighbors stopping to talk with you, dogs of companionship barking, etc.

  3. Open your heart to God’s presence in the world around you, recognizing that God created all these good things to intersect with your life at this unique point in history. Wonder and pray about the things you hear, with God.

  4. End with a prayer of thanksgiving.

  5. Later, share these mindful experiences with someone else, encouraging them to open their heart to God’s presence in the gift of His creation, too.
